NOVEL CONCEPTS IN SUPPORT OF CLINICAL MANAGEMENT OF AMR

A miniaturized isothermal nanocalorimetric platform for fast and accurate heat flow measurements

ESR13 will develop a miniaturized isothermal platform for nanocalorimetric measurements on bacteria evaluating their metabolic activity via the produced heat flow. The system will be interfaced with a microfluidic chip to dynamically apply reagents, nutrients, or drugs. Inhibitory effects of antimicrobial compounds will be evaluated aiming to distinguish drug-resistant strains from drug-susceptible ones. The sensitivity of the approach is expected to permit to diagnose presence of bacteria well before optical detection is possible.
